عبس
'Abasa
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
عَبَسَ وَتَوَلَّىٰٓHe [i.e., the Prophet (ﷺ) ] frowned and turned awayأَن جَآءَهُ ٱلْأَعْمَىٰBecause there came to him the blind man, [interrupting].وَمَا يُدْرِيكَ لَعَلَّهُۥ يَزَّكَّىٰٓBut what would make you perceive, [O Muḥammad], that perhaps he might be purifiedأَوْ يَذَّكَّرُ فَتَنفَعَهُ ٱلذِّكْرَىٰٓOr be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him?أَمَّا مَنِ ٱسْتَغْنَىٰAs for he who thinks himself without need,فَأَنتَ لَهُۥ تَصَدَّىٰTo him you give attention.وَمَا عَلَيْكَ أَلَّا يَزَّكَّىٰAnd not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified.وَأَمَّا مَن جَآءَكَ يَسْعَىٰBut as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge]وَهُوَ يَخْشَىٰWhile he fears [Allāh],فَأَنتَ عَنْهُ تَلَهَّىٰFrom him you are distracted.كَلَّآ إِنَّهَا تَذْكِرَةٌNo! Indeed, they [i.e., these verses] are a reminder;فَمَن شَآءَ ذَكَرَهُۥSo whoever wills may remember it.فِى صُحُفٍ مُّكَرَّمَةٍ[It is recorded] in honored sheets,مَّرْفُوعَةٍ مُّطَهَّرَةٍۭExalted and purified,بِأَيْدِى سَفَرَةٍ[Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels,كِرَامٍۭ بَرَرَةٍNoble and dutiful.قُتِلَ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ مَآ أَكْفَرَهُۥDestroyed [i.e., cursed] is man; how disbelieving is he.مِنْ أَىِّ شَىْءٍ خَلَقَهُۥFrom what thing [i.e., substance] did He create him?مِن نُّطْفَةٍ خَلَقَهُۥ فَقَدَّرَهُۥFrom a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him;ثُمَّ ٱلسَّبِيلَ يَسَّرَهُۥThen He eased the way for him;ثُمَّ أَمَاتَهُۥ فَأَقْبَرَهُۥThen He causes his death and provides a grave for him.ثُمَّ إِذَا شَآءَ أَنشَرَهُۥThen when He wills, He will resurrect him.كَلَّا لَمَّا يَقْضِ مَآ أَمَرَهُۥNo! He [i.e., man] has not yet accomplished what He commanded him.فَلْيَنظُرِ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ إِلَىٰ طَعَامِهِۦٓThen let mankind look at his food -أَنَّا صَبَبْنَا ٱلْمَآءَ صَبًّاHow We poured down water in torrents,ثُمَّ شَقَقْنَا ٱلْأَرْضَ شَقًّاThen We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts],فَأَنۢبَتْنَا فِيهَا حَبًّاAnd caused to grow within it grainوَعِنَبًا وَقَضْبًاAnd grapes and herbageوَزَيْتُونًا وَنَخْلًاAnd olive and palm treesوَحَدَآئِقَ غُلْبًاAnd gardens of dense shrubberyوَفَـٰكِهَةً وَأَبًّاAnd fruit and grass -مَّتَـٰعًا لَّكُمْ وَلِأَنْعَـٰمِكُمْ[As] enjoyment [i.e., provision] for you and your grazing livestock.فَإِذَا جَآءَتِ ٱلصَّآخَّةُBut when there comes the Deafening Blastيَوْمَ يَفِرُّ ٱلْمَرْءُ مِنْ أَخِيهِOn the Day a man will flee from his brotherوَأُمِّهِۦ وَأَبِيهِAnd his mother and his fatherوَصَـٰحِبَتِهِۦ وَبَنِيهِAnd his wife and his children,لِكُلِّ ٱمْرِئٍ مِّنْهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ شَأْنٌ يُغْنِيهِFor every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him.وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ مُّسْفِرَةٌ[Some] faces, that Day, will be bright -ضَاحِكَةٌ مُّسْتَبْشِرَةٌLaughing, rejoicing at good news.وَوُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ عَلَيْهَا غَبَرَةٌAnd [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust.تَرْهَقُهَا قَتَرَةٌBlackness will cover them.أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْكَفَرَةُ ٱلْفَجَرَةُThose are the disbelievers, the wicked ones.
